‘The Graph on the Wall Tells the Story of It All…’

I am a nerd about word counts.

Word counts keep you accountable, and they keep you writing. And if you care about what you write, I do think more word counts will also improve your own writing.

Sometime this weekend I decided it’s time to record my word counts again. My current project falls somewhere between a set of short stories and a full novel manuscript. The project, in whatever form it exists, is “Rotnacht.”

I propose that even as few as 50 new words are worth recording in a daily session. Maybe this is the Twitter effect at play here. It doesn’t matter. We all have busy lives. And when I write 50 new words, or 1,000 new words, I have 50 or 1,000 more than I did yesterday.

So off we go.

So I am starting my “Rotnacht” word count at 1942 today, January 25, 2010.

In other housekeeping items, make sure you join me a the “2666″ reading group. Awesome novel. You have time to catch up with us if you start today.

Also, my short story collection “The 12 Burning Wheels” is available to pre-order. Pre-order deals are juicy, you can get more books for less. And when the book launches on Feb. 22, you can also get it in the Kindle store.
